She leaves her husband of 60 years, John Anasis. She was predeceased by her son, James; her daughter, Evie; and her brother, Angelo Papadopoulos.
Elly was born in Istanbul, Turkey on November 4, 1929. She graduated from the Greek High School in Istanbul and continued her education at the French Nun School. She came to the United States with her husband in 1962 and lived in Newton and Winchester, Mass. She enjoyed many years at her summer home in Osterville before settling with her family in West Yarmouth. She and her husband owned and operated Orbit Travel Agency on Tremont Street in Boston for 15 years. She also worked as a real estate broker and an insurance agent in West Yarmouth for many years.
As an active volunteer at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Centerville, Elly belonged to the St. Katherine's Philoptochos Society and was president from 1982-1984. As president, she was instrumental in establishing the St. Katherine's Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to Cape Cod high school seniors. She was also a member and a past president of the Daughters of Penelope.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, at Morris, O'Connor & Blute, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 12 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville. Burial will be at Acient Cemetery in Yarmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Basil Academy, 79 Saint Basil Road, Garrison, NY 10524.
