The Celebration of Life and Legacy of Mr. James Vaughn Paschal will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008, 11:00 a.m., Martin Luther, King, Jr. International Chapel Morehouse College, 830 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta.

James Vaughn Paschal was born in Thomson, GA on October 8, 1920 to the late Henry and Lizzie Paschal. James completed his primary and secondary education in the public schools of McDuffie County. At the ripe old age of thirteen, James constructed and opened his first business, a shoe shine stand with a goal to raise capital to finance a bigger business. James served in the United States Army from 1942-44, following his discharge he worked with the Pullman Company. After working there for two years, James (the Entrepreneur) and his brother, Robert (the Chef) formed a partnership to crystallize their dream and Paschal's Restaurant became a reality. James Paschal married the love of his life, Phyllis Johnson, and the two were married for 58 years until Phyllis' death in 2005.

Notable awards include: The Lifetime Achievement Award in Business - by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; The Trailblazer Award given to the Paschal Brothers - by the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers; The Atlanta Business League Hall of Fame; The Atlanta Business League 50+ Years in Business Award. Mr. Paschal was a former member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Trust Bank and received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Morris Brown College. He leaves to celebrate his life and legacy - a son, Curtis (Tonya) Paschal, a grandson.
