Helen Elizabeth Neuendorf Payne died December 13, 2013. She was born January 7, 1920 in Washington DC to Herman A. Neuendorf and Martha Almira Menefee.

She grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota and Washington, DC. In 1943 she joined the United States Marines where she met her late husband Eldon Eugene Payne. She raised seven children, moving all over the United States at various Airforce bases. When she settled in Mobile, she substituted in Mobile County Schools for several years. At age 50, she received her RN degree and worked at Mobile Infirmary until her retirement in 1985. She attended South Brookley United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was active in every aspect of church life. Her special love was as head of the prayer line.

She is survived by her seven children, Barbara Patterson (Neil), David (Roxie), Robert, Bill, Charles, Carol, and John Payne; her ten grandchildren, Jana (Brad) Payne, Andrea (Art) Deckbar, Maggie (Matt) Payne, Jill and Jonathan Payne, Hope (Joey) Nelson, Crystal Taylor, Sarah (B.J.) Phillips, Theresa and Joey (Christie) King; her sixteen great grandchildren, Dreama Byrd, Daphne Deckbar, Jackson Brady, Grace Weatherford, Ethan, Nathan and Ava Reynolds, Katia Bogan, Ashley and Courtney King, Heavenly Martin, Haley Shepard, Melody Phillips, Cameron and Chloe King, Kannon Nelson; one great great grandchild, Ezra King; and a myriad of friends and family. She is greatly loved and will be terribly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of Mobile Infirmary 32 West and Alabama Hospice Care, Mobile for their care and comforting actions.

The service will be held Monday, December 16, 2013 at South Brookley United Methodist Church. Viewing will be at the church at 11:00 am with services at 12:30. Interment will be at Serenity Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to South Brookley United Methodist Church 3755 Dauphin Island Parkway P.O. Box 50067 Mobile, AL 36605.
