Alec Philmore Pearson Jr., 69, of College Station, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December, 4, 2014, at Hillier Funeral Home, in Bryan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2014, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery of College Station.
Phil was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Alec Pearson Sr. and Janice (Sanders) Pearson. He grew up on a farm in Eustace. Phil attended Texas A&M University receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in History. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the 23rd Infantry Division in Vietnam and went on to serve six years in the Army Reserves. Following his discharge from the military, Phil earned a PhD in History from TAMU and then taught History and Political Science at Blinn Community College, retiring in 2007.
He loved history and enjoyed watching movies or reading books that were based on history or science fiction, especially StarTrek. Phil could fix anything, and always had a project that he was working on. Often those projects included working in the yard and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Barbara Blythe Pearson, of College Station; step-children (that he treated as his own): Leslie Stiteler and husband, Craig, of Cypress, Natalie Allen and husband, Jeff, of College Station, Chay LeUnes, of Cypress, and Amy Norland and husband, Kyle, of Spring; grandchildren: Kayla Cline and husband, Mark, Lauren Powell and husband, Patrick, Ryan Allen, Dylan Stiteler, Blake Stiteler, Jack LeUnes, Julian LeUnes, and Emma LeUnes; as well as numerous friends.
