The Lord called Alice E. (Peel) Baccus McGrath, 87, to her eternal home Thursday, July 22, 2010, from Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Alice was born September 12, 1922, in Des Moines, IA, to Lockard L. Peel and M. Marie(Capps) Peel. On August 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to John J.P.Baccus. She attended Open Bible College and served with her pastor husband at churches in Edgerton and Sheridan, WY, and Guthrie Center, IA. Alice lived in Iowa Falls, IA, for many years and was a member of the Church of the Open Bible there. Preceding her in death were her first and second husbands, John J.P. Baccus and Clarence McGrath; her parents and three siblings, Clarence M. 'Bud' Peel, Thelma Colleen 'Connie' Rice, and Harriet Deloris 'DeDe' Shepherd; and a grandson, Matthew Jerod Baccus. Survivors include her children, Carol (Frank) Hampton of Sheldahl, John (Mary Jo Baccus of Alleman, and David (Debbie) Baccus of Minburn; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; along with one sister, Rose Ann Johnson of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews. All services will be held at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with visitation on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and a celebration of Alice's life on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice of Johnston or NAMI of Central Iowa.
