Born and raised in Trenton, Irene resided the past 60 years in Shrewsbury Township.
Irene was a homemaker, a Girl Scout Leader, and a member and former officer of the Women's Club in her community. She enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida, and annual summer vacations in Wildwood, N.J. with many relatives. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. She was a loving wife, a devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and beloved aunt. With a warm, engaging, and gracious personality, Irene had an infectious smile, a twinkle in her eye, and a quick and easy sense of humor. She loved being with people and inspired everyone to have a good time.
Irene is predeceased by her parents, William A. and Mary Hogan Pennington, her husband James J. Hughes Jr., and brothers William Pennington and Thomas Pennington. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Andrew Pourchier of St. Simons Island, GA., Debbie and Steven Lotosky of Long Valley, N.J.; a son and daughter-in-law, James J. Hughes and wife Sue of Herndon, VA.; nine grandchildren, Allison Corallo and husband Daniel, James J. Hughes and wife Christine, Andrew Pourchier and wife Nicole, Jeffrey Pourchier, Brian Lotosky, Christopher Pourchier and wife Rachel, Sean Lotosky, Elisabeth Hughes, and Katherine Hughes. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Pauline Hughes of Annandale, VA, six adorable great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
