Helen (Fallat) Petruskevich, 80, of 342 E. Columbia Ave., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been hospitalized since Dec. 26, following a short illness.
She was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Atlas, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Sciepita) Fallat. She was a lifelong resident of Atlas.
She attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of Mount Carmel Township High School.
On July 17, 1954, in St. John The Baptist Church, she married Edward A. Petruskevich, who preceded her in death July 28, 1994.
She worked in the local garment industry.
She was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Church, now Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel, and was a past president of the Council of Catholic Women at St. John the Baptist Church. She was active in the Mount Carmel Senior Action Center and volunteered her services to the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Danville.
She was devoted to God, her children, grandchildren and family. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, outings and get-togethers with her family, playing games on her iPad and solving cryptoquotes.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Petruskevich-Shay and her companion, Al Riedel, of Den-Mar Gardens, Kulpmont, and Eileen Petruskevich-Flaim and her husband, Thomas Flaim, of Kulpmont; a son, Edward M. Petruskevich and his companion, Brenda Duran, of Kulpmont; two grandchildren, Edward T. Petruskevich, of Painter, Va., and Nicole E. Petruskevich, of Shamokin; a sister, Sister Denise Marie Fallat, of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Stephen, George, John and Edward Fallat; and two sisters, Elizabeth Barletta and Rose Marie Picarelli.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Martin O. Moran III as celebrant. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing and paying respects to the family, with transferal prayers at the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C.J. Lucas IV, supervisor.
