Andy came from a long line of fishermen and manufacturers of fishing equipment. He was the only child of Theodore Seiberling Pflueger and Charlotte "Pat" Patterson Pflueger. He grew up in Altadena, CA, and the family later moved to Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, CA. He married his first wife, Mary Dell Norman Pflueger, in January 1952. They had two sons, Andrew "Drew" (b. 1957), and David (b. 1958). Andy and Mary Dell divorced in 1980.

After a successful career as a corporate head hunter in Southern California, Andy and his second wife, Joan, retired to Bozeman, Montana in 1990 and lived there until his death in 2002. He was an avid fly fisherman and an active member of Headwaters Fly Fishers in Bozeman.
