Ted's family had roots in manufacturing in Akron, Ohio.

His father was Ernest Andrew Pflueger, the original owner and manufacturer of Pflueger fishing tackle products. His company started as E A Pflueger Manufacturing - manufacturers of fishing tackle, saddle hardware, and metalworks.

Ted's mother was Julia "Ruth" Seiberling, a sister of Franklin Augustus Seiberling, founder of Goodyear Rubber Co.

Ted's maternal grandfather, John F. Seiberling, was the head of the Akron, Ohio Street Railroad, the Canton Street Railway, the Zanesville Street Railway and the Akron Car Co. All were city trolley companies in the early 1890s. He was a prominent inventor and industrialist and also headed the Empire Reaper Works and was active in the famous Quaker Oats Co. Mr. Seiberling was the inventor and manufacturer of Seiberling streetcar trucks and had hundreds of other patents. He also headed several other companies in the Akron, Ohio area and was active in the Valley Railroad, which was later part of the B&O.

Ted's paternal grandfather, Ernest F. Pflueger, founded the Enterprise Manufacturing Company. He obtained patents on 70 inventions, all of which were embodied in the products manufactured by the company. He was the inventor and original manufacturer of Pflueger tackle.

Ted and his wife, Pat, left Akron in the late 1920's and moved to Oakland, California, where their only child, Andrew, was born in 1930. Shortly after that, they moved to Southern California (first to Altadena for Andy's childhood and then to Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach) where they spent the remainder of their lives.

Ted was the West Coast Representative for Pflueger Fishing Tackle.
