Shirley worked for Cornell University for almost 30 years before retiring in 1995. She also worked as an aide at area elementary schools, sold Avon and worked beside her husband in Foster's Grocery and Garage in Virgil during the 1960's and early 1970's.
Shirley was a long time Virgil resident and a member of the United Methodist Church of Virgil and the Virgil Fireman's Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed camping, shopping, art & crafts, dogs and especially children. She loved to visit and laugh with others and she will be most remembered for her wonderful giggle.
Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, George Foster, Jr. of Virgil; her son, Randall (Linda) Foster of Homer; a grandson, Joseph Randall Foster of Homer; sisters, Blanche (Robert) Spry of Freeville, Lucy (Richard) Jacobs of Cortland and Sandra (Douglas) Goodale of Cobleskill, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Laurie Foster, who died April 8, 1964.
Shirley's wonderful spirit was taken from us much too soon, but now she is at peace in a world where her memories are restored and Alzheimer's disease does not exist.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. James Geuder officiating. Burial will be later in Virgil Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Those who wish to remember Shirley are asked to consider a memorial to Hospicare, 172 East King Rd., Ithaca, NY to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
