Catherine P. (Power) Hogan, 90, of Harwich, and formerly of Shrewsbury and Worcester, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, in Orleans. Her husband of 48 years, John J. Hogan, died in 1993.

She leaves a son, Matthew J. Hogan, and his wife, Laurie of Shrewsbury; six daughters, Frances M. Hogan of Boston, Margaret M. Hogan and her husband, William A. Rhodes D.O. of Brewster, Elizabeth M. Hogan of Brewster, Paula H. Kerr and her husband, Andrew G. of Wellesbourne, England, Mary Catherine Hogan of Issaquah, Wash. and Audrey J. Hunter of West Boylston, a sister, Margaret M. Power of Shrewsbury, five grandsons and two granddaughters. Her sister Mary L. Healy died in 2004. She also leaves her longtime caregiver and friend, Ann Marie Lee of Harwich.

Mrs. Hogan was born in Worcester, daughter of James F. and Ida (Whalen) Power. She lived in Worcester for most of her life until moving to Shrewsbury in 1983. She had lived in Harwich since 1993, where she had spent summers for many years.

She was a 1935 graduate of North High School and a 1939 graduate of Worcester State Teachers College. Mrs. Hogan began her teaching career in 1939 at the Allen Joslyn School in Oxford, where she taught for two years. She then taught in the Worcester Public Schools at Chandler Street School for four years until her marriage in 1945. In 1972, she went back to teaching at the Grafton St. School until her retirement in 1974.

She was a volunteer at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center for fourteen years, until 1990. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish in West Harwich. She was a former member of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Worcester, Blessed Sacrament Parish, Worcester and St. Mary's Parish, Shrewsbury.

Mrs. Hogan loved her time on Cape Cod, especially bird watching at Red River Beach in Harwich. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and delighted in their recent World Series victories.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, from the Athy Memorial Home with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hogan's memory to the Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, 657 Main Street, West Yarmouth, MA 02673.
