The 16th GA Infantry Regiment (also called Sallie Twiggs Regiment) was organized during the summer of 1861. The ten companies were raised in the counties of Columbia, Elbert, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hart, Jackson, Madison, and Walton (although there were members from other counties). Company D was organized at Danielsville, Madison County, GA and was also known as "Danielsville Guard."
