JoAnne Marie Boulden, 84, passed away at her Indianapolis home on Monday, January 5, 2015 while lovingly surrounded by her children. She was born April 29, 1930 to Marie and Glen Prall in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. She grew up in Milan, Indiana and spoke fondly of a childhood rich with innocence and simplicity. She began demonstrating musical talent at the age of 10 and in her teens was honored to attend the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she became an accomplished pianist.
She moved to Indianapolis at the age of 18 and later graduated from Butler University with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. While at Butler she again exercised her wonderful creativity by participating in numerous musical productions.
She married Donald J. Boulden on June 29, 1952 at Broadway United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother and grandmother to her three children, Jill, Kimberly and Mark and her grandsons Tyler and Riley Boulden. Her children feel so extremely grateful and blessed to have her as their mother.
Her love and passion for young children was her contribution to mankind. She devoted 25 years to early childhood education at Parkview Co-Operative Preschool where she created magic in the classroom. She believed the formative years of a child's life are the most impressionable and nurturing a child's self esteem and curiosity for life are paramount.
Her gift in the classroom was extraordinary and her purpose truly was to serve and inspire children and their parents. She was in the business of making wonderful childhood memories and couldn't go anywhere without happily bumping into former students or their parents who expressed gratitude for her unique contributions to their lives.
JoAnne lit up any room with her warm smile and contagious laugh. She had an amazing way of making everyone feel special. With a kind and loving spirit, she inspired and encouraged the people she encountered and looked for goodness in all.
She was a lifetime student of spirituality and the discovery of our oneness with God. She believed that if you are looking for answers you must look within. She was a progressive thinker, loved being surrounded by her books and shared her intuition and wisdom with humility and grace.
Her poodles were some of the loves of her life and she always said they were an example of unconditional love. She discovered her talent for watercolor painting later in life and was an extremely accomplished artist. She often said time stood still when she picked up the paint brush.
She loved nature, the beach, her flowers, her home, her family, jazz music, PBS and all things good, true and beautiful. She was multitalented and had the most beautiful soul and loving heart. Heaven just received an angel.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald J. Boulden; her children, Jill, Kimberly and Mark; and grandchildren, Tyler (Michelle) and Riley Boulden.
