Former Port Washington resident Bernadine M. Fritsch had a lifelong love of flowers and gardening. She delighted in sharing the colorful blooms she grew with family and friends.

Mrs. Fritsch, 64, died at her home in Slinger on Wednesday,January 19, 2011, after a lengthy battle with lung disease.

She was born in Port Washington on September 26, 1946, the daughter of John and Cecelia Prom.

She grew up on the family farm on Highway KK in the Town of Port Washington.

On June 31, 1970, she married Richard Fritsch at St. Peter Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.

Mrs. Fritsch worked in the assembly and inspection departments of the Briggs & Stratton plant in Milwaukee for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

After her retirement, she and her husband built a home in Slinger.

She was a warm and caring person who always put needs of others first," her husband said.

Mrs. Fritsch was also an avid cook who enjoyed trying new recipes on her family.

A devoted animal lover, her constant companions were her beagles, Pepper, Jackie and Samantha.

Mrs. Fritsch is survived by her husband, Richard of Slinger; sons, Richard and John, both at home; sister, Delores(James)Tenpenny of Port Washingto, and brother Kenneth Prom of St. Francis, Donald(Patricia)Prom of Port Washington and Gerald Prom of Whitewater.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant daughter, Renee, sister, Rosemary Brydon and brothers, Robert Newman and James Prom.

Services were held Saturday, January 22, at Church & Chapel in Milwaukee.

A memorial service will be held in May at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.

Memorials to the family or for Masses at St. Peter's Catholic Church are requested.
