The death of Grandmother Chapman, one of the oldest ladies of the county and well known in this city occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nathan Ayers, south of the city, Wednesday afternoon of last week. She had been in poor health for several years, and about two weeks ago grew worse, her condition at once becoming alarming. Deborah Pruden was born in Pennsylvania May 7, 1829, and died January 16, 1901.
In 1848 she was united in marriage with Aaron Chapman. To this union was born ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Her husband, five sons and one daughter preceded her to that life beyond. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1857 and ever since lived a constant Christian life. Her life was a benediction to those who knew her. Her death was peaceful. She left by her Christian life and example a bright evidence of her hope and faith in Christ.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. H. Peters at the M. E. church, Decatur. Interment at the Beery Cemetery.
