Phillip Rand MD, 94, peacefully passed away May 16th at Mercy Scripps Hospital surrounded by loving family and friends.

Phillip was born to the late Isidore and Minnie Rubin and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He went to college and medical school (graduated at age 22) at The University of Wisconsin Madison, where he was a varsity basketball player and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He completed a residency in OBGYN at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

He was a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy and served in World War II and the Korean War. After being stationed in the Navy in San Diego,he married Florence 'Tamara' Teacher and remained there for the rest of his life. He loved practicing medicine and delivered over 40,000 babies. He was a superlative physician whose reputation was unprecedented. He loved being with friends and family more than anything. He had a passion for reading and watching the news and sports, and doing the crossword puzzles. He will be tremendously missed and forever remembered in their hearts by all that knew him.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Tamara; his sister, Molly Levin; and his three brothers in-law, David Levin, Theodore and Lee Teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hogue Rand; his brother, Joseph Rubin; his daughters, Rochelle and Rhonda Rand MD; his nephews, Theodore, Brian, and Bruce Teacher; and his grandchildren, Tamara, Michaela, and Jacob Hirsch.

Funeral Services were held at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113, on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 at the graveside in the Shalom Section. The memorial service followed at The Meridian, 700 Front Street, San Diego, California.
