Born in Salem on February 16, 1938, Sally was the daughter of the late Harry and Susan (George) Raynes. She was a graduate of Salem High School and Salem State College.
Upon graduation, Sally taught at Marblehead Junior High School. She later served as a policewoman on the Massachusetts State Police. After marrying she held a number of jobs ranging from legal secretary to vintage postcard dealer. She lived for many years in Alexandria, VA until her love of New York City led her to move to Brooklyn in 2008.
More than anything else, Sally loved caring for children, whether as mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, home daycare provider, or foster mother. She will be warmly remembered for her feisty, affectionate nature, and her abundant sense of humor.
She is survived by her two children, Joseph Dzikiewicz and his wife, Julia of Alexandria, VA, and Sara Heard and her husband, Gary of Brooklyn; four adored grandchildren, Andrew, Katherine, and Diana Dzikiewicz, and Marjorie Heard; two sisters, Mary Stenberg of Doylestown, Pa. and Joan and her husband, Charles Gilligan of Beverly; two brothers, Richard and his wife, Patricia Raynes of Palm Harbor, Fla. and George and his wife, Laura Raynes of Salem and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Raynes, and her sister, Carol Marler.
Her Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, St. Peter Street, Salem, at 11:00 a.m.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
