A native of Lawrence County, Gatha L. Dyess was born on May 19, 1924. She was the daughter of Holland Raynes and Francis Smith Raynes. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Reform Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS.
Mrs. Dyess is survived by her sons, Samuel Dicks of Carson, MS, Willie Dyess Jr. of Silver Creek, MS, Stassen Dyess of Carson, MS and Bunt Dyess of Gloucester, VA; her daughter, Charlotte Hathorn of Hayville, VA; eighteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and one great grandchild; and four sisters, Doris Nell Dyess of Carson, MS, Patty Sue Ford of El Dorado, AR, Etoy Turnage of Brookhaven, MS and Janette Holloway of Brandon, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie Dyess Sr., three brothers and a sister.
