After college she met her loving husband, the late Carle Brown. They married on Nov. 15, 1947. Together they made their home in York. Barbara was employed for many years as the payroll administrator at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She oversaw the immense task of the payroll department for many years, embracing technology as it worked its way into the field. She trained in Boston to work with one of the first computer systems on the yard and changed and grew with her department throughout the years.
Barbara loved to work with her hands. One of her favorite crafts was making bears; she was skilled at making many bears and the accompanying clothes, many of which have been shared with family and friends throughout the years. As a member of the York Hand Crafters, she also enjoyed many other types of handy work. At home she enjoyed the company of her family. Her brothers and sisters and their children, who all lived close by, provided her with many opportunities to enjoy trips with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sister Mrs. Mary Kimball of Kittery Point; brothers Richard Raynes of Kittery Point and Francis Raynes of Oakfield ME; nieces Maureen and Amy Raynes, Marcia Kimball, and Wanda Burks; nephews Brian and Nathaniel Raynes and Jedidiah Thompson; and sister-in-law Cynthia Littlefield of Rochester NH.
