Mary Alice Read was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi Jan. 23, 1925 and passed away Mar. 10, 2014 in Stockton, CA. She is survived by her daughter Rose Arong (Sam), four sisters and late husband's children, David Read (Janet), Steven Read (Karla) and Linda Church (Ed), in addition 12 grandchilden and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil "Ray" Leroy Read and first husband, Francisco A Nicolas.
She moved from Mississippi to California in 1946. After retiring from Dameron Hospital, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and was well known for being a talented seamstress and quilt maker that provided cherished gifts to family and friends.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
A private committal will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of San Joaquin at 3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95204.
