A Rosary will be recited for Doris Maud Read, 103, of Chico, Thursday, November 17, at 5 p.m., at Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, followed by a visitation. On Friday, November 18, 11:00 a.m. a funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with burial following at Chico Cemetery.
Doris passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Chico Creek Care and Rehabilitation facility.
She was born on December 3, 1901 in British Guiana to John and Belle Teixeira.
In 1919 she married Herbert Read, who passed away in 1955.
Doris came to Chico in 1967 from British Guiana. She was active with Catholic Ladies Relief Society, and St. Vincent DePaul Food Locker. She was also President of the Patients Council at the Chico Creek facility and a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Doris was preceded in death by her three sisters; Ezilda Salsa, Enid DeSouza, and Helena Gonsalves. Doris is survived by her cousin Gloria Jardine, niece Clarice Salsa, and four nephews, Neville DeSouza, and John, Tom, and Chris Sullivan.
