Gordon Lee Red Bear, 43, Cannon Ball, North Dakota, passed away April 9, 2013 at IHS Hospital, Fort Yates.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball, with Revs. Evans and Ione Elk and John Red Bear officiating.

A Wake service begins at 5:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2013, also in the Youth Activity Center, Cannon Ball.

Burial will be in St. John's Episcopal Cemetery, Bullhead, South Dakota.

Gordon was born April 29, 1969, at Eagle Butte, South Dakota to Oley and Mary Lou (Eagle) Red Bear Sr. He was raised and attended elementary school at Isabel, South Dakota and Cannon Ball, North Dakota He attended Solen High School, where he participated in track/cross country with his brother Oley Jr., and his love of basketball began. Gordon received many awards; with 1986-87 team reaching regionals, which was a huge accomplishment. He graduated in 1988. He continued perfecting his game when he went on to attend United Tribes Technical College; and played for the Thunderbirds from 1989-1991. He also ran cross country with Oley Jr. and Ray Moore. They also attended NTSC-Detroit Lakes, and were inseparable.

Gordon met his wife, Debbie, at United Tribes in 1988, and shared many years together. After college, Gordon worked for Prairie Knights Casino, Flickertail Construction Company, Bismarck Holiday Inn, Engineer of American, Standing Rock Fire Department, and Standing Rock TWEP Program. Gordon still had time to enjoy basketball, softball, and horseshoe; playing in many leagues and independent tournaments; receiving many awards, which he would turn and give away to his family.

Gordon was a true gentleman; helping anyone, anywhere, and anytime; putting others before himself. He was also a perfectionist. He had a winning and competitive attitude. He pushed others to do and be their best. He loved to tease. Gordon was the oldest boy in our family. He was loved, babied, and cherished. Gordon really missed his family that preceded before him, and he will be missed very much. Love you always FLASH.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Fourswords, Cannon Ball; two daughters, Jenny LeeAnn Red Bear, Cannon Ball, Adrienne Leigh Kingbird, Red Lake, MN; stepson, KJ Fourswords, Cannon Ball; three sisters, Lori (Kevin) One Horn, Julie (Matthew) American Horse, Madonna (Bryan) Silk, brother, Scott (Krista) Red Bear; all of Cannon Ball; two granddaughters, Anaya Kingbird, Kiere Fourswords; his dog Dude.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Oley and Mary Lou (Eagle) Red Bear Sr.; three brothers, Oley Jr., Robin and Timothy Red Bear; sister, Tanya Red Bear; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Beatrice (Cottonwood) Eagle; paternal grandparents, Isaac Red Bear and Grace Brown Otter; Annie "Tootsie" Thunder Hawk, grandfather, Sampson Steele; uncles, John Thunder Hawk Sr. and Michael Thunder Hawk Sr., Roland Brown Otter Sr., Cletus Eagle, John Red Bear and Charles Lester Sr.; aunt, Mary Brown Otter; cousins, Gerald "Yamni" Running Hawk, Donnie Crow Ghost, Brittany High Elk, Jonathan High Elk, Joey Red Stone, Lawrence Red Stone, Burton "Baby" Lester; his dog King.
