Resident of Saratoga
Francesca Maria Pezzella was born in New York to Italian parents, Emelia and Pasquale Ricca. One sister, Lilliana Portelli resides in Florida. Francesca was raised in New York and also in Italy.
On Sept. 8, 1940, Francesca Maria Ricca married Raffaele Pezzella, who was born and raised in Naples, Italy before coming to America. They raised two sons, Vince and Pat Pezzella. The family worked together in a grocery store/delicatessen until the sons were teenagers. Francesca had the courage and foresight to sell their business and move to California.
The family worked as a tight unit at a restaurant called 'The Villa Napoli,' a quaint well liked Italian restaurant. Eventually, the family built a new restaurant, 'Pezzella's' at 1025 W. El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. The establishment and family works together and has since 1957 (54 years in business). Raffaele Pezzella passed away nine years ago. Francesca was a wonderful cook and known for tasty dishes, especially her meat balls. She was dedicated to Pezzella's Restaurant and devoted to her tightly knit family.
She is survived by her family: Vince and Tencha Pezzella, Pat and Marcie Pezzella; Ralphy Pezzella and his children, Gianna (13), Capri (10), and Dominic (8); Marcia Pezzella and Jill Arenson. There are relatives back East, Florida and also Italy. The Pezzella family thanks the staff at Sunnyvale Health Care Center and those who visited Francesca Maria Pezzella.
Funeral Services and entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos will be private, family only. Contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Anthony's Foundation or to the charity of your choice . Arrangements by the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, Mtn. View.
