MARY JANE ALMONTE, 87, of Morgan Street, Cranston, who died Tuesday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, was an employee at Monet Jewelry for many years before she retired and was a former member of United Commercial Travelers of America.

She was the wife of the late Alfred Almonte.

Born in Johnston, a daughter of the late Antonio and Lucia (Falco) Ricci, she lived in Cranston for 15 years. Mrs. Almonte was an organizer and president of the Johnston Democratic Ladies Club.

She had been a representative of Aid to Dependent Children during World War II for the Thornton area. She was president of the Women's Insurgent Club of Johnston, and a state committeewoman for District 1 in Johnston. She was a former worker of the United Commercial Travelers of America, and treasurer of the board of trustees of the Marion J. Moore Library.

Mrs. Almonte was a representative for the Silver Haired Legislature from District 55 in Johnston, and, after moving to Cranston, a representative for the group from District 23. She was a secretary of the Johnston Senior Center board of directors, and a secretary of the Kelley Gazzerro Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the AARP and a communicant of St. Rocco Church.

She leaves a son, Alfred A. Almonte of Cranston, two granddaughters and two great-grandsons. She was the sister of the late Beatrice Guglielmo, Gilda Charpentier, and Augustine and Clarence Ricci.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from Nardolillo Funeral Home, 127 Park Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Rocco Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
