Marie "Della" Bonnetti of Winfield Park, formerly of Westfield, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, surrounded by her loving family after a short illness at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick. She was 93 years old. Marie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered as a loving, compassionate, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her compassionate, gentle heart and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she touched. Marie displayed an exemplary moral compass and work ethic. She was born and raised in Maplewood, NJ where she graduated from Columbia H.S. and was employed by the Western Electric Company. She married her loving husband, Joseph in 1954 and moved to Westfield, NJ. Upon the passing of her husband in 1977, Marie's passion for nature and people led her to Trailside Nature & Science Center, in Mountainside, NJ, where she worked as a receptionist for 30 years. She was a devoted and lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Felice and Catherina Ricci; her sisters, Katie Lordi, Rose Bonnetti, Angela DeNardo, Theresa LaManna, Anne LaScala, along with her brothers, Anthony Ricci, James Ricci, Joseph Ricci, Nick Ricci, and Phil Ricci. Surviving are her loving children, Arlene Dustin and her husband Cecil, Joseph Bonnetti Jr. and his wife Geri, David Bonnetti and his wife Lori; and seven grandchildren, Ron Dustin, Brian Dustin, Steven Dustin, Jason Bonnetti, Joel Bonnetti, David Bonnetti Jr., and Michelle Bonnetti. In addition, Marie leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, Westfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Westfield. The burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marie's memory to Trailside Museum Association, 452 New Providence Rd., Mountainside, NJ 07092.
