Cora Brown, 87, of Brackenridge, formerly of Oakmont, died peacefully Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at home. Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Margaret (Chiusano) Ricci. Affectionately known as "Brownie", she was an extraordinary nurse in the Emergency Department at the old Columbia Hospital in Wilkinsburg for more than 30 years. She was an amazing artist, who loved the Steelers, Pirates, gardening and cooking. Cora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed, in 1986. She is survived by her son, Ed (Jean) Brown, of Kingman, Ariz.; daughter, Jill (Mike) Vardis, of Brackenridge; grandson, Jason (Nadine) Brown, of Seattle; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Hudson Brown, both of Seattle; sister of Lil Adams and Frank Ricci, both of Oakmont, and the late Marge DiFeo and Lee Mosakowski; sister-in-law of Tony DiFeo, of Lower Burrell. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Laurie Lesoon officiating. Interment will follow next to her husband at St. Joseph Cemetery, Verona.
