ALICE W. RICHARD (DOWNS) 1931-2004 "God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, Peace be thine." Alice Willean Richard was born March 27, 1931 in Magnolia, Mississippi to John Jackson and Alice Downs Jackson who preceded her in death. She was 1 of 15 children who also preceded her in death. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Pink Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Magnolia, Mississippi. Alice received her former education from Rose Hill High School in Magnolia, Mississippi. She worked for Meade Notebook Company in Chicago, IL for 35 years and Per Pax. She was joined in holy wedlock to Clyde Percy Richard for 54 years who preceded her in death, and to this union 1 son was born, Louis Staff Richard, who also preceded her in death. In 1949, Alice and her family moved to Gary, Indiana. She departed from this life on February 16, 2004 at approximately at 2:06 p.m. at home. She leaves to cherish in her memory: her loving daughter-in- law, Juanita (Louis); 4 grandsons, Rodney Richard, and Garland Richard both of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dante & Timothy Palm; 2 great grandchildren, Essence Richard and Jayla Palm; 6 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; special nephews, Francis and Hollis Jackson; special cousin, Robert & Thad Richard; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church, 2457 Massachusetts St. Visitation will be the same day as the funeral beginning at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Smith, Bizzell, Warner & Son Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary. "Your Golden Rule Funeral Home."
