Alice graduated from Richmond High School and retired from Reid Hospital after many years of service. Alice became a member of the Second Missionary Baptist church as a child under Rev. F. W. Weathers, and was an active member of the church and the Women's Ministry under Rev. LaRue Griffin until her death. She was also a member of the daughters of the Elks and the American Legion Auxiliary. She affectionately known as "Big Gran" to family and friends, and her home was a gathering place for the entire neighborhood.
Survivors include her daughters Jeri Shipp (Tom) of Indianapolis, Connie Jackson (Ron) of Richmond, Roma Bridgeforth (Art McRoy) of Richmond, and Sharon Kaye Shearer (Fred) of Richmond, her sister Delphia Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one nephew, and many other relatives and good friends including Lucille Bussing, Ada Pennington, Roberta Satterfield, John Bryant, and Mary "Sister" Beck. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
