Alice "Pie" V. Bridgeforth of Richmond passed away at Golden Living Center, Golden Rule September 30, 2010 at the age of 84. She was born March 13, 1926 to James and Caddie Richard in Richmond. There she met and married Robert Bridgeforth on March 2, 1946 and together the union produced five children. In addition she was a "mother figure" who helped raise Sharon Kay shearer of Richmond, whose mother was deceased. Alice's husband Robert and their two sons Richard and Lamont preceded her in death.

Alice graduated from Richmond High School and retired from Reid Hospital after many years of service. Alice became a member of the Second Missionary Baptist church as a child under Rev. F. W. Weathers, and was an active member of the church and the Women's Ministry under Rev. LaRue Griffin until her death. She was also a member of the daughters of the Elks and the American Legion Auxiliary. She affectionately known as "Big Gran" to family and friends, and her home was a gathering place for the entire neighborhood.

Survivors include her daughters Jeri Shipp (Tom) of Indianapolis, Connie Jackson (Ron) of Richmond, Roma Bridgeforth (Art McRoy) of Richmond, and Sharon Kaye Shearer (Fred) of Richmond, her sister Delphia Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one nephew, and many other relatives and good friends including Lucille Bussing, Ada Pennington, Roberta Satterfield, John Bryant, and Mary "Sister" Beck. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Home going celebration will be 1:00 PM Tuesday October 5, 2010 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. LaRue Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral home is handling arrangements.
