Grace was the daughter of a well-known and successful pioneer family in the Sacramento Valley, the Rideout family. A bright young woman with means, she attended Vassar College back east. She married Dr. William Ellery Briggs a successful optamologist. She outlived her husband by several decades. She and her husband and other members of the family are buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Sacramento in an area called "The Briggs Addition" near the front of the cemetery.
