Hattie Mae Ridgeway was born on January 13, 1899, in Blount County, Alabama, her father, Alvin Lee Ridgeway, was 37 and the son of William Ridgeway and Elizabeth Thompson and her mother, Julia Mae Parker, was 17 the daughter of John H. Parker and Mary Mollie Entrekin. She married Grant Ralph Allen on December 27, 1920, in Rome, Georgia. She said that she knew that Grant was the man for her the first time she ever saw him. "Love at first sight" They raised their family in Gadsden, Al. They had seven children in 20 years. She died on January 19, 1981, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 82, and was buried in East Gadsden, Alabama at Crestwood Cemetery
