The only dauughter of William Hunter and Cora (Sefton) Robbins, Willa was born in Greensburg, attended Miss Evans School in Boston, and graduated from Tudor Hall School in Indianapolis. She later attended Indiana University where she was affiliated with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Willa married, first, Carl R. Mendenhall on October 2, 1919 in Decatur Co. Carl died in 1924. They had one son, William James Mendenhall.

Secondly, Willa married Floyd A. Barnes, Oct. 15, 1927, who died in 1961. A son, Earl Thomas, and a daughter, Wilouise, were born to this union.

Active in Greensburg society, Willa was a member of the Greensburg Presbyterian church, Psi Iota Xi sorority, the local chapter of the DAR and the Decatur County Historical Society. A portion of her obituary follows:

"Mrs. Willa Robbins Barnes, 78, a descendant of pioneer Decatur County families and a lifelong resident of the Greensburg area, died about 7 p.m. Wednesday in Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She had been a guest at the Hospitality Nursing Home the past two years until being taken to the hospital.

"Mrs. Barnes was born April 1, 1899 in Greensburg and was the daughter of William Hunter Robbins and Cora Sefton Robbins.........

"Survivors include two sons, E. Thomas Barnes and Dr. W. J. Mendenhall, both of Greensburg; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Wilouise) Alley, Evansville; one brother, W. Hunter Robbins, Greensburg; one sister, Mrs. Jessie R. Wood, Greensburg; and nine grandchildren.

"Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the J. H. Porter and Sons Funeral Home. The Rev. William Clemenson will officiate and entombment will be in the South Park Mausoleum."
