Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Community Garden Club of Wayne, the Surrey Club and the American Association of Retired Persons, Valley Forge Chapter.
She worked for 25 years in the Haverford College Library.
"She was just really proud of her family, just very proud that she had 15 great-grandchildren," said her granddaughter, Jocelyn Grover. "She was really involved with all of us. . . . She was very encouraging in everything we wanted to do."
Survivors: two sons, Thomas R. and Donald N. Jr.; a daughter, Barbara C.
Freitag; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and a sister.
Services: 11 a.m. tomorrow, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Lancaster and Louella Avenues, Wayne; burial, the churchyard of St. David's Episcopal Church in Wayne.
