ARMOUR > Lanell Elizabeth (Roberts) Armour departed this life to go home to Jesus, on January 3, 2010. She had been born in Sparks, GA, on June 18, 1934, to the loving family of Gordon and Ruth Roberts.
She graduated from Cook County High school. In 1955 she married Jimmie Norman and lived in Valdosta, GA. During the time in Valdosta she worked for Belchers Pharmacy, Southern Bell, Metal Products and Georgia Gas Light also in her spare time she sold Cort cosmetics.
Jimmie and Lanell had their first daughter, Susan Elizabeth in January 1956. Their second daughter was born in 1959, Cathryn June. After 9 years Lanell and the 2 girls moved to Jacksonville, FL.
In 1966 she married Luke T. Armour, Jr. While living in Jacksonville, she continued her career working with Alton Box Board, Robert Travis Agency and Southern Bell (later to become AT&T.) She retired from AT&T in 1991. She showed meritorious service and won many awards while working with AT&T. After retiring from AT&T she did tax returns for H&R Block part time. Early in the 1970s Lanell and her sister Helen sold Denise Jewelry on the home party plan.
In 1982 her first granddaughter, Jennifer Elizabeth, was Born in Texas to Susan (and Mike Grindle). In 1983 her second grandchild and first grandson, Jeremy Roth was born to Cathy (and Jerry Roth). In Oct. 93 her third Grandchild and second granddaughter, Anna Maria was born to Cathy (and Jerry Roth). In Oct. of 2007 Jennifer (and James Apling) presented Lanell with her first Great grandson, Christian Apling. All her grand and great grandchildren were highly prized by her.
Lanell lost her second husband Luke Armour in 1999, and afterwards spent time gardening, and fixing up her yard and house. She was a member of the Begonia Society and also enjoyed ceramics, going to garage sales, doing crossword puzzles and making caps for Cancer patients. One of her favorite things to do was spending time with her best friend, Bridgette, her schnauzer puppy.
Lanell was pre-deceased by her Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Husband and one Grandchild. Lanell is survived by her daughters and Sons in Law. Her ex-husband and his wife, Several nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in law, cousins and due to her giving nature many, many friends.
After she got sick she was no longer able to attend her church, she went to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and enjoyed the services and attending the functions. She will be greatly missed.
The family visitation to greet friends will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. 32205. Funeral service will held on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
