In 1870 Orville Benedict Phelps came to Contra Costa County, California and in 1873 married Miss Esther E. Robertson, daughter of J.W. Robertson, a California pioneer of 1857. Her father was commonly known as ‘Tod” Robertson, quite prominent in the stock business on King’s River.
In 1883, Orville & Esther moved to Cross Creek in Tulare County and to Hanford in 1887.
They had 6 children, Ida May (McCulloch), Emmet V., Zesah L., Orilla B., Chester Arthur and Cuthbert
