Redding Record Searchlight (CA) - Sunday, November 9, 2014
Betty Jean Adams of Redding, CA passed into the presence of her Heavenly Father November 2, 2014 at the age of 92.
She was a cheerful, humorous, down-to-earth, a classy woman, a good friend, and a dedicated wife and mom.
Jean was born in Brownsville, Oregon on June 22, 1922. At the age of 3, the family moved to Okotoks, Alberta, Canada having fallen on hard times on their berry farm during the Depression. While growing up she loved to run to the hilltops to overlook the fields, go to the Community dances and spend time with her many friends.
At the age of 21, she followed her heart to New York to marry Orin, a handsome oil rig worker from the neighboring town of Turner Valley, Alberta. She followed him through 4 years in the Army through 4 states and 4 Universities. Eventually they made their home in Bakersfield, CA where she was a dedicated stay-at-home mom raising their two children. In 1956 the family moved to Fresno, CA and then again in 1964 moved to Redding as Orin's job as a Civil Engineer for the division of Highways, transferred him for promotions.
During her adult life, Jean loved craft projects and was a master seamstress. She made all of her daughter's clothes, all of the drapes for their three homes, and found time to make sailing gear bags for her husband's sailing endeavors and Greg's cycling adventures. The last 13 years of her life she loved to clothes shop and travel to near and far casinos to play the penny slots.
Jean loved to keep things light with her humor inserted here and there. Like her dad, she loved to laugh.
She is survived by her brother Bob Robertson of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, her daughter Rhana Jipson of Hanford, CA, her son Greg Adams of Redding, her 4 grandchildren: Erin Green Horton and husband Jack of Clovis, CA, Elis Rush of Hanford, Jenae Adams of Carmichael, CA and Russell Adams of Chico, CA. Jean is also survived by her 3 great grandchildren: Kameron Rush, Kaleigh Green and Scottie Green. Jean is survived by 12 nieces and nephews in Canada.
Those that have gone on before her are her husband, Orin, mom Annie Robertson, her dad Alfred Robertson, her sister Freda Milner, and her parrot, Polly.
The family would like to thank Jean's caregiver Becky Hiller for the care and devotion she extended to Jean and to Greg for his time and loving care of mom. Also a heartfelt thank you to Interim Hospice and the people who were so supportive that last couple of months, in particular, Lisa Howerton, mom's nurse. She was immeasurably compassionate and understanding throughout this time.
We want to express a special thank you to friends and neighbors, Jerry and Patti Boyle, for their love, prayers, and willingness to help. Everyone has truly been a Blessing to both Jean and the family.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in her home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Interim Hospice, 1762 Technology Drive, Ste 211, San Jose, CA 95110 or The Day Sailor Association, Jean Adams Memorial, c/o Dave Keran, 5670 N. Bond Ave., Fresno, CA 93710.
