It was indeed a lucky Friday 13th in October when she was born into such a Christian and close-knit, loving family. Betty played basketball at Double Springs High School where she graduated as class Valedictorian. She moved to Birmingham to work at the Alabama Power Company where she met and later married G. H. “Happy” Dobbs on May 18, 1946. They began a full life together raising two children; enjoying frequent family, church and social activities; and extensive travel. In her near 87 years, she went to all 50 states, Canada, Europe and the Bahamas.
The family moved to the Jasper area where Betty was part of the core group that founded the Smith Lake Civic Association. She also served as a volunteer at Walker Regional Medical Center for 15 years.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gilford Harris Dobbs; parents, R. S. Rose and Lee Ota Anthony Rose of Double Springs; and sister, Jackie Rose Sartain of Birmingham.
