John Paton, a native of Perth, Scotland, and
his wife, Mary Murray, settled on Lot 9 Con. 8
ECR in 1851. After a short time they bought Lot
4 Con. 8 WCR, 50 acres, from the Canada Com-
pany. Here they built a small frame house and
raised their family of nine, Andrew Erskine Pa-
ton (1851), John (1854-1883), Ann (1856) (Joseph
Young), Mary Jane (1858-1882), James (1860-1885),
William (1862) of Cleveland, Ohio, Allan (1866-
1912) of Seville, Indiana, George (1868-1893), and
Agnes (1870-1908) (William Ross)
