Jane Rutledge was born February 19, 1822 in Ireland, County Fermanagh, and was married to John Gillogly July 1, 1845. They immigrated to America in 1847 and settled in Illinois in the same year, where she has since resided. Mrs. Gillogly was converted at the age of 16 years and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church to which she remained a consistent member. Her husband preceded her to the spirit world twelve years ago. Four children died in infancy. Five sons, William D., John W., Edward D., Joseph H., and David F. are mourning the loss of a kind a loving mother, for on February 7th, 1900 she was promoted from labor to her reward, from a body to a spiritual body and a spiritual home. She lacked just eleven days of being 78 years of age. Her death was due to heart failure brought on by the grip. She was a resident of this county for over half a century and was widely known. Because of her noble life she was greatly esteemed which was fully attested to by the very large attendance at her burial. Even though the roads were rough, the attendance was the largest of any funeral held near Savanna in a long time. The home was a home of prayer and a house for the early pioneer ministers. She was a great bible student. The M. E. Choir of Savanna rendered the music. The sermon by Rev. D. T. Kahl was preached from II Cor 5:1, a text which she had herself selected for the occasion. She had prepared for this journey.
