Daughter of the late Matthew and Freda (Karthouser) Sabol, Mary Ellen was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Holy Child Catholic School and Little Flower High School. After high school, Mary Ellen married her beloved husband, John J. Durie, and began a wonderful life together.
She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was always proud to speak about her children and their families.
For over 12 years, Mary Ellen worked at St. Mary Medical Center at their switchboard before retiring in 2001. After retiring, she and John moved to Port Saint Lucie, Florida, where she happily entertained her family, especially her grandchildren, and embraced her love of the sun and the beach. Her joyful spirit and loving and giving ways will be deeply missed by her family.
Mary Ellen was survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, John J. Durie, Jr.; her children: John J. Durie III (and his wife, Kim) of Chalfont, Jessica Durie of Philadelphia, and Jennifer Money (and her husband, Keith) of Middleburg, Florida; her grandchildren: Edward, Erika, Matthew, Johnny, Madison and Morgan; her great-granddaughter, Kylie; and her sister, Freda Hare of Bensalem.
Family received friends on Friday, June 20, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. until her Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Rd., Richboro, Pennsylvania. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. Arrangements were under the direction of the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home of Richboro.
