Theresa 'Tarri' S. 80 May 07, 1935 to May 08, 2015
Comforted by loved ones both near and far, Tarri Hanson passed away peacefully May 8, 2015.
She had just turned 80 years old.
Born Theresa Helen Sabol May 7, 1935, in Cleveland, Tarri was the second daughter born to George and Anna Sabol.
Tarri attended Notre Dame College in Cleveland and graduated in 1957 with a B.S. in Microbiology. She then began a career as a registered dietician.
In 1958, she married the love of her life, John Hanson, and they began a 57-year journey together that saw them move west to Utah, Idaho, California, Oregon, Maine and finally, back to Oregon where they resided in Gresham until moving to Raleigh Hills in 2013.
Along the way, they raised six children.
The daughter of Slovak parents, Tarri enjoyed surrounding her children with the deep traditions of her family and passing on to them the richness of her parents' culture.
Tarri was a very civic minded spirit and enjoyed nurturing and feeding her children's curiosities and education. Many summer days she spent taking her children and their friends to explore both museums and surrounding natural wonders wherever they lived.
She remained active in supporting their educational endeavors, church programs, scouting activities and numerous sporting events.
Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with John to Shakespearean festivals, annual whale watching trips to the coast, rooting on her grandsons' teams and of course, hosting holiday events that brought everyone together.
Tarri was a strong and energetic soul who always looked to help others, even in the midst of dealing with her own tragedies.
She was preceded in death by her children, Anne, Michael and Meg.
She had no more defeated cancer than she quickly turned to become a volunteer counselor to those also afflicted. That was her style.
Tarri is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Mary; sons, John (Peggy) and Erik (Jeab); grandsons, Erik (Kortni), Nicholas, Alex and William; great-grandsons, Jakson and Jakoby; sister, Mary Ann; and numerous nieces, nephews and all of their beautiful children.
Tarri and her unselfish nature of giving will be missed, but will live on in those who were touched by her soul.
To her many friends, we ask that you honor her by acting as she would and continue to think of others and pay it forward.
Services were held with interment in Douglass Cemetery, Troutdale.
