Leona B. Conrad, 96 a former resident of St. Paul, Iowa, died on Monday, Nov. 17 at 12:25 a.m. at the West Point Medical Center.

Leona was a 60 year resident of the St. Paul area and was a resident of the West Point Care Center for the Last three years.

She was born on July 28, 1907, the daughter of William and Anna Menke Sanders. She married Bernard N. Conrad on January 15, 1929 at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1976.

Conrad was a member of St. James' Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Daughters of Isabella of St. James, the Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Paul Quilters. She made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.

She was survived by eight sons; Ray (wife Justine) Conrad of Tempe, Ariz., Victor Conrad of Creswell, Ore., Ernest (wife Nancy) Conrad of New London, Linus (wife Sue) Conrad of Versailles, MO., Paul (wife Kaye) Conrad of Pilot Grove, Carl (wife Connie) Conrad of West Point, David (wife Mary) Conrad of Dearborn, Mo., and Tony (wife Bobbie) Conrad of Placentia, Calif.; four daughters: Connie (husband Carl) Menke of Fort Madison, Patricia Conrad of Reno, Nev., Bernadine (husband Mark) Kruse of Avon, Colo., and Karen Derksen of Dublin, Calif., two brothers: Joseph (wife Bea) Sanders of Chandler, Ariz., and Fr. Raymond Sanders of the Divine Word Missionaries in Techny, Ill., two sisters: Sister Rosanne Sanders of Milwaukee, Wis., and Rosanna (husband Leroy) Steffensmeier of Fort Madison, 44 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

Conrad was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James (May 11, 2000), Brothers: Ed, Bernard, Herman & Alfonse, sister Mary Pieffer, grandchildren Dennis Conrad and Bill Menke.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, Iowa. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a Christian Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the church. Family will meet with friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul. Fr. Dennis Hoffman will be officiating.

Burial will be at St. James' Cemetery in St. Paul and a memorial to St. James' Catholic Church in St. Paul has been established.
