FALLON - U.S. Army Sgt. Phillip M. Sawyer, 20, died last Sunday while on active duty in Japan as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident. He was born June 9, 1953 in Detroit. He was a graduate of Michigan Garden City West High School with the class of 1971. He enlisted in the army in January 1972. Sawyer was trained in communications and had served for about a year and a half in Japan. He is survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. Leslie A. Sawyer of Fallon, brother Thomas of Fallon, sisters Diana Audet and Leslie Munn, both of Westland, Mich., and Cora Burruss of Fallon. A military graveside service will be held at 11 . a.m. Saturday at the Fallon Cemetery in the Veterans section. Arrangements are under the direction of the Austin Funeral Home in Fallon.
