Carl F. Schaeffer Sr., 90, of West Penn Township, died Wednesday morning, April 8, in Lehigh Valley Health Network, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of the late Mae I. Schaeffer, who died August 10, 2012.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the former Pabst Brewery, Lehigh Valley, and the former Atlas Powder Co., Reynolds. Born in West Penn Township, he was the son of the late Earl and Emma (Blessing) Schaeffer. He served in the artillery division in the US Army during WWII.

Carl was a member of Zion's Stone Church of West Penn Township. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #173, Tamaqua and the VFW Post #5069, Andreas. He was an avid bowler, loved polka dancing and he was fond of spending time with his grandchildren. Carl enjoyed tending to his garden and sharing the harvest with family and friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jashen M. Schaeffer in 2002, three brothers, Norman, Leon and Jeremiah, and two sisters, Edna Zimmerman and Grace Schaeffer.

Survivors: Surviving is a son, Carl F. Jr. and wife Michele and a daughter, Carol A., both of New Ringgold, a sister, Marion Smith of Coplay; a sister-in-law, Velma Schaeffer, of New Ringgold; two grandchildren, Cristy, wife of Gregg Clemson and Jessica, wife of Jason Zellner, six great grandchildren, Jacob Schaeffer, Kyle Haslam, Paige Zellner, Lyla, Gia and Mitchell Clemson, and nieces and nephews.

Services: Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 11, at the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold, with the Rev. Michael A. Frost officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 9-11am. Interment will be in the church cemetery with full military honors. Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
