Caroline Scheriff was born in Germany Mar. 20, 1840 [sic] and died November 26th, 1921 in Crystal Lake at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 6 days. At the age of 7 years she moved with her parents to America and settled at Milwaukee, Wisoncon. At the age of 17 years she was united in marriage with Benjamin Kile. To this union 10 [sic] children were born: Jennie Patterson of Piedmont, So.Dak.; Rose Hobbs of Crystal Lake; Daniel Kile of Aitkin, Minn.; John Kile of Titonka; George Kile of Fort Dodge; Mabel Dorrow of Brook Park, Minn.; and four who preceded her in death Emma, Lydia, Louisa, and Ida. In the year 1881 she was united in marriage with Peter Adams who also preceded her in death. To this union were born two children: Fred Adams of Cohasset, Minn.; and Dora Kaster who preceded her in death. She has one brother, Ed Scheriff of Ventura, two brothers and a sister in Newberg, Oregon; thirty grandchildren and six [great] grandchildren to mourn her loss. She lived thirty years of her life in Ventura. She made her home with a daughter in Crystal Lake. She united with the Congregational church in Clear Lake, Iowa, in the year 1892 and remained a consistent member. She has been a kind and indulgent person and has lived a useful life. Her body was shipped to Garner Monday from Crystal Lake and from there taken to Ventura in an auto hearse. Funeral services were held in the U.B. church Monday p.m. the Rev. Zike officiating. Internment was made in the Ventura cemetery beside her husband [Peter] and daughter [Dora].
