Jeanne Scherf Gillham, 81, a retired realtor/broker who grew up in Springfield, died February 6 after a long illness in Coronado, California. Born in Platte County, Jeanne was the daughter of Roy Eugene and Ruby Marie (Allmon) Scherf. She attended Drury University to study business and Washington University in St. Louis to study hospital administration.
On August 9, 1957 in Las Vegas, Jeanne married naval officer Richard (Dick) Davison Gillham, also of Springfield. Jeanne had a varied career. In Japan, she taught English as a second language and flower arranging. In Guam she was a travel agent for American Express. In Virginia, she received her real estate and broker's licenses and became one of the top realtors in the Washington D.C. area. In California, Jeanne volunteered her time to coordinate other volunteers for Navy Relief, receiving a Merit Award from the organization. Jeanne and Dick retired to Republic, where they bred registered Polled Hereford cattle. A second retirement brought Jeanne and Dick back to their home in California.
Jeanne is survived by three children, Felicia Li Standfuss, Deidre An Haskins and Melia Su Hogan and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick (Capt., USN, Ret.) and her sister Phyllis Joan Gann. A service and burial for Jeanne at Arlington National Cemetery.
