Martha Edith Curry, age 90, of York, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur J. Curry in 1995, son, Patterson W. Curry in 1999, and sister, Rosie Gartz in 2008.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine (Edward) Leary of John's Island, SC, Kathleen (John) Smith of York, son, Gerald (Dale) Curry of Lima, grandchildren, Kacz (Jennifer) Kaczmarczyk, Marshall Smith, Sarah (James) Franklin, Jennifer (Brian) Watt, Molly (Greg) Bukowski, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Martha was born on November 14, 1924 in Rochester, NY the daughter of William and Helen Schwan. On November 9, 1946 Martha and Wilbur were married and celebrated 49 years together while residing in York, NY.

Many knew Martha as York Town Clerk, a post she held for nearly 20 years.

Martha belonged to many community organizations including the York Fire Company Auxiliary, both National and New York State Republican Women, York-Leicester Towners Senior Citizen Club, and St. Lucy's Rosary Society. She was chairwoman for the Town of York Republican County Committee, and member and past treasurer of the Livingston County Women's Republican Club. In 1998 she was voted Senior Citizen of the Year for the Town of York.
For many years, Martha was a contributor to the "York Yarns" section of the Livingston County News. A devout parishioner at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof, she assisted with music and organ playing. She was also bookkeeper for the Curry family farm, Sunburst Acres, in York.
Martha's hobbies included bingo, and listening to her son, Jerry, sing and play guitar with his band. Every summer, Martha rented a cottage on Conesus Lake for her family to enjoy. She also gladly hosted every holiday celebration and family birthday party. And she let every kid blow out the candles twice!

Calling hours will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home, 111 Main St. in Geneseo. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 9 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church in Retsof.
