She was a native of Tølz, West Germany and moved to the United States with her new husband, Eugene Ashton, and their son Ralph to make their home in Riverside in 1956. They built a new home for their growing family.
She worked at various jobs while learning the English language. She was employed at the Long Palm Motel in Palm Springs in housekeeping, then Bourns Electronics in Riverside. While starting a hog farm with her husband Gene, she was a wife, mother and farmer.
They divorced in 1966. She left Riverside in 1970 and lived in Redlands with her family until 1975 when she made her home in Yucaipa.
She was employed in board and care for the elderly at Harruby Manor.
Theresa is survived by her sons Ralph E. Ashton of Cherry Valley. Harvey R. Ashton of Yucaipa, and Stephen R. Ashton of Calimesa; daughter Triana Theresa Ashton of Yucaipa; brothers Erwin Schwartz and Heinz Schwartz of Germany and Robert Schwartz of Walnut; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her parents were Joseph and Maria Theresa Schwartz.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Calimesa.
