COLUMBIA - Mrs. Jane Scruggs Russo, age 91 of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2013. She was born October 21, 1921, in Dentsville, SC. Jane was the daughter of the late Sanford and Salli Moorer Scruggs.
She was a very astute businesswoman and, for many years, was an owner of Physicians Clinical Laboratory of Columbia, SC, which, through several mergers and acquisitions, became a part of the present Laboratory Corporation of America (Labcorp).
Jane is survived by two children, son, Sanford "Sonny" Koon (Sara), and daughter, Salli Childress Hoffman; six grandchildren, Carrie Jones (Steve), Michael Hoffman, Kenny Hoffman, Desiree Koon Edwards (Kelly), Wendy Koon Weaks (James) and Mindy Koon; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Michael T. Russo, and a granddaughter, Cindy M. Koon.
A memorial service for Jane
will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. The Rev. Vickie Powell will be presiding. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family thanks all the caregivers that provided loving care to Jane during her long illness.
