The family moved to Long Beach in 1932 and Pauline had many stories about life following the Long Beach earthquake in 1933. She graduated from Wilson High School and Long Beach City College. Music was a huge part of her life and she played trumpet in the marching bands at both schools. In addition, she played first trumpet in the Long Beach Women's Symphony during the WWII era. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a deputy city clerk for the city of Long Beach.
Pauline married Jack (John W.) Ellis in 1948 and they made their home in Long Beach where Jack and his brothers owned the Ellis Paint Company. Pauline worked as the secretary to the Long Beach district superintendent of the United Methodist Church after their daughter, Marynelle, was grown. She was active in Chapter CR of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and California Heights United Methodist Church where, until recently, she sang in the choir for over 50 years.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Marynelle Ellis Huang, and her grandson, Mark Huang, along with many beloved friends of all ages. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at California Heights United Methodist Church, 3759 Orange Ave., Long Beach 90807.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Calif. Heights U.M.C. in Pauline's memory. Please sign the guestbook at www.presstelegram.com/obits.
