BURNETT, Betty Scruggs 8/11/28 - 4/24/2013. Daughter of the late James Carol Scruggs and Vera Clayton Arnspiger. Mrs. Burnett passed peacefully on April 24th, 2013 at the age of 84 in Nashville, TN. Mrs. Burnett is the beloved wife of the late Dr. Lonnie S. Burnett. She is survived by daughter, Anne Julian - Fagergren and son-in-law Kirk J. Fagergren and son Michael Conrad Julian and daughter-in-law Gina Carter Julian. Mrs. Burnett was born in Sherman, TX on August 11, 1928. She graduated with honors from Austin College with a degree in Education. Mrs. Burnett married Lonnie Burnett on December 22, 1950, and eventually settled in Baltimore, MD where she obtained her Master of Education at Johns Hopkins University. She continued to teach school in inner-city Baltimore and had such a tremendous impact on her students, that they stayed in contact with her to thank her for their accomplishments. In 1976, Dr. Burnett was named the Chairman of OB/GYN at Vanderbilt University Hospital. At the time of Dr. Burnett's death last spring, they had been married 62 years. Mrs. Burnett will be remembered for her exemplary kindness to every person she met, and for her love of playing bridge, passion for animals and animal advocacy, and for her devotion to the Episcopal Church. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1 at St. Georges Episcopal Church with a memorial service at Noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Greyhound Pets of America, Nashville Chapter (gpanashville.org).
